Consular Processing

Beneficiaries of approved family-based or employment-based Immigrant Petitions have two options when applying for Permanent Residence. They may (1) file an application for Adjustment of Status, or (2) apply for an Immigrant Visa at a United States Consulate abroad. If they are  physically and lawfully present in the United States, they may apply for Adjustment of Status through the USCIS or elect consular processing. Individuals who are outside of the United States must apply for an immigrant visa at United States Consulate.
